Little Red Flying Fox
(pteropus scapulatus)
This species is more widespread than any other flying fox in Australia. It's range also includes the desert regions of outback Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria as well as coastal areas.
Incredibly, Little Red Flying Fox colonies can easily exceed one million. Predators include large reptiles, aquatic reptiles and even large fish can catch low roosting Little Red Flying Fox's over water.
It's physical size which is noticeably smaller than most other flying foxes and it's reddish-brown colouring along with sparsely furred legs identify it from other flying foxes.
