Red Necked Pademelon
(Thylogale thetis)
Red Necked Pademelon is more of a specialized rainforest dweller, it is found from south east Queensland to the New South Wales central coast and into the Blue Mountains. The Red Necked Pademelon is slightly smaller than the Red Legged Pademelon with fine short hair so it doesn't become tangled in the thorny, spiky rainforest plants. In cold weather they seek sun shining through the rainforest and will sit still in the sun for a couple of hours.
Red Necked Pademelons use their paws to feed more than most other macropods (kangaroos, wallabies, pademelons, etc.).
The Red Necked Pademelon has a small reddish patch of fur on the back of its neck and feet thumping is common when alarmed, as it is often heard bofore it is seen. Population remain relatively stable and it is still considered quite common. Predators include dogs, foxes, quolls and possibly large birds of prey.
